How to get to Montezuma

There are regular direct flights from several states in the US starting from $500 per person on American Airlines. We recommend you book your flights as early as possible to get the lowest rate.

Now to get to Montezuma...

Option 1:

Fly into San Jose (SJO) airport and take a short charter flight (40 minutes) to Tambor, followed by a 25 min transfer to Montezuma. Please note to use this option, the short charter flights tend to sell out so we recommend you book in advance. We have seen them listed at $270 per person for roundtrip flights. You can view the Sansa Airlines flights here

OPTION 2:

Fly into San Jose (SJO) airport. Take a transit van + ferry to Montezuma, around 5 hour journey. This is a great alternative for those who aren't keen to take small charter planes, plus it's a very scenic route.

OPTION 3:

Fly into Liberia (LIR) airport and take a 4+hour air-conditioned van transfer to Montezuma (with a stop). Cost varies dependent of number of passengers.

About Montezuma

Montezuma is unique among beach destinations in Guanacaste and Nicoya. For years, this remote village and its surrounding beaches, forests and waterfalls have enjoyed near-legendary status among backpackers, UFO seekers, hippie expatriates, and European travelers. Although it maintains its unique vibe, Montezuma has emerged as a great destination for all manner of travelers looking for a beach retreat surrounded by some stunning scenery.

Various cultural influences can be felt in the outstanding restaurants in the area. Active pursuits abound, from hiking in the Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature Reserve to horseback riding to a beach-side waterfall. The hotel itself is also walking distance to a Canopy (zip-line) Tour and a Butterfly Farm Gardens, Butterfly Brewing Co.(micro-brewery) and the delicious Cocina Clandestina restaurant. As ever, it's the natural beauty, miles of almost abandoned beaches, rich wildlife, and jungle waterfalls that first made Montezuma famous, and they continue to make this one of the favorite beach towns in Costa Rica.
